A pro-life activist has been arrested for climbing the Las Vegas Sphere.

Maison Des Champs, who calls himself the ‘pro-life Spider-Man’, took about 20 minutes to ascend the 112m-tall structure on 7 February.

Des Champs could be seen taking steps across the top of the Sphere before appearing to descend back inside the Exosphere, which is the largest LED screen on Earth.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Des Champs is facing charges of destruction of property and conspiracy to destroy private property.

The incident occurred as the city gears up for Super Bowl LVIII, which takes place at Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Sphere Entertainment said the climb will not impact any advertisements or promotions running on the Sphere this week

Comments on social media have suggested that the climb was likely to have damaged some of the 1.2 million LED pucks that make up the Exosphere.

According to photos posted to Des Champs’ Instagram feed, he climbed the Sphere to raise awareness of Let Them Live.

The professional climber from Las Vegas regularly carries out out such stunts to raise money for “women in crisis”.

In August 2021, Des Champs scaled Las Vegas’s 180m-tall Aria Resort & Casino to protest against mask mandates during the coronavirus pandemic.
