A total of 568 remotely managed 4K Philips digital signage and videowall units have been installed in Showcase Cinemas across North America.

As part of a major revamp of all 22 Showcase Cinemas in the US, the cinema chain tasked Atlanta-based DEEL Media – a digital signage solutions specialist with extensive experience in delivering turnkey solutions to movie theatres – with replacing its ageing and outdated display network. This included delivering additional and consistent communications across all locations, while creating new revenue opportunities.

Following site visits, 549 Philips Signage D-Line 4K UHD digital displays – ranging from 43” to 75” – and 19 Philips Videowall X-Line displays (49”-55”) displays were installed in the cinemas’ lobby areas and corridors.

The Philips X-Line and D-Line displays were selected for their flexibility and versatility, offering high-impact 4K screens that can perform in any lighting conditions.

PPDS’s ‘Open 2’ strategy – which embraces complementary software platforms and hardware from other providers – allowed the displays to be configured to suit each theatre’s design. They utilise DEEL Media’s Carbon content management system, which provides control and creation services either on-site or from a central location.

Wide range of digital content
The Philips displays provide a constant and varied feed of digital content including movie trailers, box-office information, wayfinding services, and marketing opportunities that were not available with the previous system.

Each cinema’s food concession kiosks feature an elevated line of connected Philips Signage D-Line displays showing content designed by DEEL Media. Since the screens were installed, food and beverage sales have increased by about 20%, bringing an instant return on investment.

PPDS director of sales in the US, Bruce Wyrwitzke, says: “Our Philips digital signage and videowall solutions have a proud and proven track record in helping businesses to transform visitor experiences in a variety of markets and environments, culminating in increased profits.”

Jacob Volk, executive vice-president of client services at DEEL Media, says: “The Philips D-Line and X-Line displays were the standout choices for this project. Working seamlessly with Carbon, Showcase Cinemas can efficiently manage all current digital menu boards and other signage implementations – be that the 500-plus they have today or the thousands they may have in the future.

“It’s just as easy to manage the digital signage in all theatres as it is in one. The feedback we have received from Showcase Cinemas, from executives through to the staff, has been overwhelmingly positive.”
