George Michael could return to stage as ‘HoloWham’

George Michael could return to the stage as a hologram next year – almost a decade after his death.

Accounts filed by the former Wham! star’s company, Nobby’s Hobbies Holdings, at Companies House indicate that the estate has plans to branch out into live events.

The publicly available documents says: “Activity at the group will broaden in the next one to three years to include live public performances.”

When asked his thoughts on a hologram tour, Michael’s former Wham! bandmate, Andrew Ridgeley, told BBC’s Newsnight programme last year that it would be “fantastic” to have the band playing live, at its pomp.

He added: “Of course, there are ethical questions. So it would be mutual decision between myself and [George Michael’s] estate, should it ever come to it.

“I can’t speak for them, so I don’t know how they would feel about it. But I think it could be done – and I think it could be done exceptionally well.”

Ridgeley has previously said he enjoyed watching the Abba Voyage hologram show, which represents the band as digital ‘Abbatars’ representing 1979 versions of themselves.

A million tickets, costing up to £181, were sold for Abba Voyage in the first year after its launch in May 2022, contributing £322.6 million to the British economy and making it London’s sixth-most-visited paid attraction.

Rock band KISS have also unveiled ‘immortal’ digital avatars that will carry on their performances when band members are no longer able to tour.
